soooo i have a quite a few friends who was in AP classes but they dropped it cuz they said it was too much work and waste of time i'm not in AP classes, but, i could have been if i asked my teacher about it. but then my mom's all like "ur not gonna get into a college cuz u didn't get an AP class" so i was thinking about signing up for AP Bio when i'm a senior (i'm gonna be a junior in high school) but then again, that's only cuz i wanna spice up my college ap. a little but i'm not even good in bio so i don't know how i'm gonna survive it. the way i see it is, i don't wanna take a class that i know is going to have a chance of lowering my average but the way my mom sees it, it's a must. now i feel all bad about not having an AP class... so.... my question is... is AP class SO beneficial that ppl should take it?

I believe AP classes are well worth the effort. AP classes are very difficult and if you want to pass the test for collage credit then you have to work very hard. However, you don't necessarily have to pass your class to make an impression. If you took AP Bio in your senior as your first AP course and failed--I think the admissions officers would look at that and think of you as a person willing to challenge herself and extend herself beyond her known academic boundaries. And if you passed the test then a college credit always looks better than a high school credit.
Personally, I have found my AP classes much more enjoyable than my normal or honors/challenge courses. The teachers treat you more like a cognizant being rather than an irritatingly dim child they've been forced to baby sit. The students in these classes tend to be more intelligent and driven. Overall, the AP atmosphere is more mature and satisfying than other courses. Also you learn much more. Normally, your teacher plans for you finish the textbook--or most of it--but you never quite make it. In AP, you finish everything the teacher has scheduled and take more through exams. AP is difficult but so is college and I believe both to be worthwhile. However, I don’t think taking AP decides whether or not you get into a “good” college—you decide that by the amount of work and dedication you put into your courses, AP or otherwise.
I hope my rant has helped you somewhat.

AP classes are absolutely critical not only because college admissions but because of the number of credits you'll receive. Typically when college freshmen pick classes for the first time they tend to let students who have the most college credit pick classes first.

While you do not have to take AP classes to get into a good college, taking one or more increases your chance of admission. Colleges want to see that you're challenging yourself.
You should only take classes that you're good at or interested in. If you know you won't do good in biology, don't sign up for it. Does your school offer any AP courses in subjects that you're good at or interested in? If they do, then you should consider them.

I go to a small, AA school, and we don't have a lot of AP courses available. But I would jump on any that you find. I took AP US History last year (fondly known as APUSH), and I really liked it. That was mostly because of the teacher, but the class was a good experience for me. This year I'm taking a college class through dual enrollment as my history, and APUSH is really helping.
The downside to AP classes, compared to college classes, is that you have to do well on the exam at the end of the year to get credit. Most people can manage a 3 (my score, teehee), and if you study a lot you never know how well you will do. Even if you don't do well on the exam, though, many schools weight AP classes higher than even honors classes, and it always looks good on a college application because you took a rigorous course.
It isn't completely necessary to take AP classes, but it is DEFINITELY worth it, especially if you've got a good teacher.

From my experience of past and current AP courses I can tell you they are demanding but worthwhile. It takes determination to get through these classes and another persons opinion should not be your motivation. If collges see you fail an AP course they may think your not ready for college. However passing the course and receiving collge credit will give you a boost when compared to other students. Though you may have a difficult time passing AP courses, you will learn a lot about the subject and yourself.

only if you think you can do it. like if you can get an A or a B then do it, but if not don't try because then it's not worth it.

AP Classes are definitely worth it! Think of it this way: if you put in the effort (because it is college-level coursework there will be much effort involved) you will pass the AP exam at the end of the year. Depending on your college major, passing an AP exam may help you skip an introductory course in college. For example, AP Calculus BC would count as your Calculus 1 and Calculus 2 course in college (engineering, science, pre-med?). Receiving a college credit in high school is money in your pocket down the road!

I'm in my senior year and have only taken AP Psychology. I took it because it is the easiest offered at my school and because I wanted to get a feel for the college work load. Turns out I actaully like the class. However, I don't recommend doing what I did... Yeah it may be the easiest but what if it didn't interest me and I ended up dropping the class. How would that look on an application? Don't take it if there is a good chance you will drop the class.

I know where you are coming from because all of my friends are taking AP classes as well. From what I understand that when you take an AP class when you take the big AP test that for it to "count" you need to score a 3 or higher. This can get you out of taking the class in College and can be helpful if you are going to go into the feild that the AP class is in. Just remember if you do take an AP course they are hard because it is college level work that you have to do and some of the work you do actually gets shiped to the school for the professers to look at. or at least that is how it is in my AP french class. My counclor told me that i should take AP course because i do not have that hard of classes. But the one thing that you should remember is that colleges do not just look at GPA or test scores any more. More and more Colleges are taking the hollistic approch. They are taking in the extra activites that you do, the sports, volunteering, work experance and much more. I don't know if this has helpped you at all and sorry about my really bad spelling. Good Luck and i hope that you get into the shcools that you want to get in to.

ap classes are amazing, especially when you can use the credits to bypass required courses in college. i loathe math but thanks to my ap calc credits i never have to take it ever again. a lot of my friends had 30 or more credits before they started college and it has been a huge help to them. i only got 11 and i have to say that i really regret not taking more ap classes.
