Official Rules - No Purchase Necessary to Enter or Win

  1. Three ways to enter: (1) To enter Next Step Publishing's "Win Free College Tuition" Sweepstakes online, complete and submit an entry form at the website www.nextstepmag(azine).com. Entry must be filled out completely and accurately with name, address, city, state, zip code, age, phone number (including area code), and e-mail address. Online entries must include a valid e-mail address. Online entries must be received by 11:59:59 PM Eastern Time on 6/20/08; (2) Complete and submit a Business Reply Card ("BRC") obtained from our free Next Step Magazine in HS counselor offices or from a magazine subscription, to be postmarked on or before 6/20/08 and received by 5:00 p.m. on 6/27/08. Entry must be filled out completely and accurately with name, address, city, state, zip code, age, phone number (including area code), and e-mail address. Or (3) On a 3" x 5" postcard, hand print your name, address, city, state, zip code, age, phone number (including area code) and email address (optional) and mail it to: Win Free College Tuition Sweepstakes, Next Step Publishing, 86 W. Main St, Victor, NY 14564, to be postmarked on or before 6/20/08 and received by 5:00 p.m. on 6/27/08. Limit of one entry per person (e-mail address) by any method of entry. Entries become the sole property of Next Step Publishing ("Sponsor") and will not be acknowledged or returned. All entries are subject to Sponsor’s Privacy Policy, which is available at http://www.nextstepmag.com/privacy and expressly incorporated herein by reference. Any form of entry other than those described herein is void. Sponsor and their agents are not responsible for incorrect, lost, late, misdirected, damaged, incomplete, illegible, or postage-due entries. Sponsor and their agents are not responsible for computer system or phone line errors, software/hardware malfunctions, or other errors, failures, or delays in transmission that are human, mechanical or technical in nature, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to entrant's or any other person's computer related to or resulting from downloading or entering any part of this sweepstakes. Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to cancel or suspend the Internet portion of this sweepstakes should a virus, bug, or other cause beyond the control of Sponsor corrupt the administration or proper conduct of the sweepstakes and all online entries submitted at the time of cancellation or suspension will be considered in the random drawing. Online entries will be deemed to have been submitted by the Authorized Account Holder of the e-mail address submitted at time of entry. "Authorized Account Holder" is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an e-mail address by an Internet access provider, online service provider, or other organization (such as a business or educational institution) that is responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address. In the event of a dispute over the ownership of an e-mail address, the Authorized Account Holder of the designated e-mail address will be considered the potential winner of any prize. This sweepstakes shall be governed by New York law. By entering, participating or accepting any prize in this sweepstakes, you agree that New York courts shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute or litigation arising from or relating to this sweepstakes and that venue shall be only in Rochester, New York.
  2. Sweepstakes is open to legal residents of the U.S. and Canada (excluding Puerto Rico and Quebec), age 14 or older who are in college, will be enrolled in college within three years from 9/30/08 OR who can transfer it to another legal resident of the U.S. and Canada (excluding Puerto Rico and Quebec) that is in college or will be enrolled in college within three years from 9/30/08.   Employees of Sponsor, their affiliates, subsidiaries, dealers, distributors, retailers, advertising and production agencies, and their immediate families and residents of their households are not eligible.   Anyone who attempts to defraud or in any way tamper with the sweepstakes will be deemed ineligible, and may be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.   All federal, state, and local laws and regulations apply.  Void outside the United States of America and Canada, and where prohibited or restricted by law.   Odds of winning depend upon the number of entries received.   Estimated non-Internet circulation 4,500,000 and estimated Internet circulation of offer is 1,500,000 impressions.
  3. Prizes and prize value: One (1) Grand Prize: One Year College Tuition Scholarship up to $20,000 USD.   Amount of award will be determined by the total cost of tuition for one year at the college or university that the student is attending OR by the total cost of both unmet need and need-based aid as determined by the student’s financial aid letter, whichever is lower.  Tuition includes full and part-time tuition only, as charged by the bursar's office and does not include any charges such as room and board charges, books, activities fees, registration/class/orientation fees, facilities/lab fees, and any and all other charges by the bursar's office to attend the degree accredited college or university that are not stated as tuition.  The winner will be required to submit a copy of their college financial aid award letter in order for the prize value to be determined.  Prize will be issued in check form and made payable to the college or university and sent directly to the college or university in which the winner is enrolled OR winner can accept $500 USD in cash in place of the college tuition scholarship prize.   In order to be eligible to receive the Grand Prize, the potential winner or potential winner's designee must provide proof of actual enrollment in a degree accredited college or university by 9/30/11 and permit and authorize such college or university to provide Sponsor with verification and confirmation of enrollment.  Winner must show proof by 9/30/11 or accept $500 USD cash or prize will be forfeited in its entirety.   Total value of prize: $20,000 USD maximum.   Prizes awarded to parents or guardians, if the winner is a minor, may only be used towards their child's educational costs at such college or university.   By accepting any prize, the winner agrees (and will certify in the Liability/Publicity Release referred to below) that he or she is solely responsible for any affect accepting such a prize may have on scholarship eligibility or other consequences of accepting such a prize.   Prize is transferable to another person that is a resident of the U.S. or Canada (excluding Puerto Rico and Quebec), that the winner designates in writing and meets the proof requirement previously stated above.
  4. One potential winner will be selected from all eligible entries received, in a random drawing conducted on or about 6/29/08 by Sponsor and whose decisions are final. The Sponsor will attempt to contact the potential winner by mail, phone or email and the potential winner must respond within 14 days following notification attempt or an alternate potential winner will be selected.   The potential winner will be required to complete an Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability/Publicity Release, which must be returned within 14 days or an alternate potential winner will be selected.   Any prize notification letter or affidavit or other documents described in these Official Rules that are returned as undeliverable or any failure to comply with these Official Rules, will result in a forfeiture of eligibility to win any prize. If the potential Grand Prize winner is a minor, a parent or legal guardian will be required to execute the Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability/Publicity Release on behalf of said minor for the Grand Prize to be awarded.   Taxes are the winner's responsibility.   Prize acceptance and execution of the Liability/Publicity Release constitutes permission (except where prohibited) to use winner's name and likeness for publicity purposes without additional compensation. Sponsor, its directors, officers, employees and their agents are not liable in any way for any winner's acceptance or use of a prize.   For the name of the Grand Prize winner, send a self-addressed stamped envelope with your request to: Tuition Giveaway Winners List, The Next Step Publishing, 86 W. Main St, Victor, NY 14564.   Request must be postmarked by 6/20/08.   VT and WA residents may omit return postage.
  5. By entering, participating or accepting any prize, you agree that Sponsor has the sole right to decide all matters and disputes arising from this sweepstakes and that no promotional agents or affiliates will be held liable for any element of the sweepstakes administration.  The sweepstakes administration and prize is the sole responsibility of the Sponsor.  By participating, entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and that all decisions of Sponsor on all matters relating to this sweepstakes are final.   Winners release Sponsor, their directors, officers, employees, and agents from any and all claims, liability, loss or damage, including any third party claims, arising from or relating to, in whole or in part, this sweepstakes, including entry and participation in this sweepstakes and acceptance, possession, use or misuse of a prize.   You further agree that in the event of any third party claims, damages, losses or injuries, arising from or relating to this sweepstakes arising from their entry, participation or acceptance of any prize, you indemnify Sponsor, its directors, officers, employees and agents from any and all such claims, including reasonable attorneys' fees related thereto.
